SimplaDocs

Hours Back program terms

Hours Back is run by SimplaDocs LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("SimplaDocs"). It isn't sponsored by, endorsed by or affiliated with Coda or Superhuman. By ticking the terms box when you register, you agree to these terms.

Who can enter

  • Anyone entering on behalf of a team, company or organization, in any country, except where the law doesn't allow it. The program is void where prohibited.
  • You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that's higher.
  • SimplaDocs employees and contractors, and their immediate families, can't enter or win.
  • Current SimplaDocs clients can enter, but only with net-new work that sits outside any active statement of work (SOW) with us. We check entries against active SOWs. If an entry overlaps one, we'll ask you to narrow it or we'll set it aside.
  • Entering is free. No purchase is necessary, and buying from us doesn't help you win a build prize or the points prize.

How to enter

  • Registering (step 1: your name, work email, a category and one line about the problem) saves your place. A registration on its own is not a judged entry.
  • A complete entry is steps 1 to 4. Only complete entries are judged and get a diagnosis.
  • Each entry is one workflow in one category (Fix it, Build it or Automate it). You can enter as many workflows as you like, each as its own entry.
  • Your email can't be changed after step 1. If you used the wrong one, register again with the right address.
  • Once an entry is complete, it's locked. To change something, reply to your receipt email and tell us what to update.
  • We may set aside entries that are spam, copied, offensive or not a real workflow.

When entries close

Entries close November 6 at 11:59 PM PT, or at a later date we announce on this page. After that, nobody can register, and unfinished entries can't be completed. Your resume link will show that the program has closed.

Judging

Entries are judged on merit, not chance. There is no draw, and nothing you do earns extra chances. Each complete entry is scored 1 to 5 on these criteria, weighted as shown:

CriterionWeight
Business impact: hours and people affected, and how believable the "done" number is30%
Feasibility: whether we can deliver it within the prize build25%
Fit for Coda, Superhuman Docs and Go agents20%
A before and after we can measure15%
How useful it is to other teams with the same problem10%
  • Not scored: company size, client status, budget owner, 2027 plans, how you heard about us, your chosen publication level and your points.
  • Two judges score each entry separately and compare. Anyone who manages your account with us steps out of judging your entry.
  • A tie goes to the higher impact score, then to the entry completed first.
  • We may choose not to award a prize if no entry fits. Judges' decisions are final. We plan to announce winners about a week after entries close.

Prizes

  • Gold (1st place): a $15,000 build
  • Silver (2nd place): a $10,000 build
  • Bronze (3rd place): a $5,000 build
  • Prizes are build work by SimplaDocs, not cash. They have no cash value and can't be transferred or swapped.
  • Each prize is delivered under our standard services agreement and a $0 SOW. The SOW lists the full value of the work, then a 100% program award, so your procurement team has a clean record.
  • Builds run from late November to mid-January. Paid client work may move build dates.
  • Ownership of what we build follows the winner's SOW, which uses our standard SOW template. We share the template with any winner before they sign.
  • Prizes are awarded to the entrant's company or organization, not to the individual who entered. The company is responsible for any taxes that apply.

Diagnosis for every complete entry

Every complete entry gets a written diagnosis, usually within 1 to 2 weeks of completion. One diagnosis covers all of a person's complete workflows, ranked. If you complete another workflow after your diagnosis is sent, we send a short addendum for it. A diagnosis names the problem, its cost and an approach. It doesn't include a full build.

If you share a copy of your doc for a deeper diagnosis, it must contain dummy data only. We delete doc copies 60 days after entries close (January 5, 2027 at the current close date).

Points prize

Points are a separate prize. No purchase is necessary to earn points, and points never affect judging of the build prizes. Points are awarded only for the actions in the table below, under fixed rules applied the same way to everyone. There is no draw, random selection or other element of chance in the points prize. The person with the most points when the leaderboard is final wins a 2-hour workshop for their team with Scott Weir and a SimplaDocs builder, valued at about $2,500. The workshop has no cash value and is awarded to the winner's company or organization.

Referrals

  • A referral scores only after the person you referred completes an entry. It shows as pending until our email confirming their entry is delivered.
  • Each person can earn referral points for someone else once, however many entries they make.
  • Only people new to Hours Back count. Referring yourself scores nothing.
  • Referrals from personal email addresses (Gmail, Outlook.com and similar) score nothing. You can still enter with one.
  • A referral from your own company's email domain, or from the same internet connection within 24 hours, is held for review before it scores.

Posts

  • Paste the link to a public LinkedIn or X post that includes your personal link. One post per network earns points.
  • We check each post at least 2 days after it went up. It must still be public and still include your link when we check.

Reviews, voids and ties

  • We can void entries, referrals, posts or points we judge to be junk or gaming the rules. Voiding removes the points they earned.
  • Points stop at close. Posts submitted before close are still reviewed, within 3 days after close, and count if approved. Nothing submitted after close counts. The leaderboard is final after the last review.
  • A tie goes to whoever reached the score first.

Leaderboard

The Hours Back page may show the top 5 by points, using first name and the first letter of the company. You can opt out of the leaderboard at any time from your entry page. Opting out hides your name. Your points still count.

Emails we send

Emails come from Hours Back by SimplaDocs, and replies go to our team at [email protected]. We send:

  • a receipt when you register and when you complete an entry;
  • your links when you ask for them;
  • reminders to finish an unfinished entry;
  • a follow-up after you complete, inviting another workflow;
  • one email when the points prize opens;
  • the results.

Your diagnosis comes separately, emailed by a SimplaDocs builder from their own address. Every email from the program has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the reminders, the follow-up and the points email. Receipts, links you ask for, your diagnosis and results still come, because they're about an entry you made. Our newsletter is separate and only sent if you ticked the box for it.

Your data

  • We store your answers on the SimplaDocs website's database and copy a summary to HubSpot, the system we use to manage contacts. We send email through Resend.
  • We use your answers to run the program, judge entries, write your diagnosis, and follow up about working together.
  • The page records how it's used (pages viewed, questions opened, video watched, steps reached) with Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and LinkedIn, so we can follow up and improve it.
  • We don't share your entry with Coda, Superhuman or anyone else outside SimplaDocs without your permission.
  • We delete entries 12 months after the program closes.
  • To see or correct your data, or to have it deleted sooner, email [email protected].

Phone number

Your phone number is optional. If you give it and tick the consent box, you agree that SimplaDocs may call you, or send you one-to-one messages by text or WhatsApp, about your entry only. We won't send marketing messages to your phone, use the number for anything else, or share it. Tell us to stop at any time by replying STOP or emailing [email protected].

Publication

Winners agree to at least an anonymized case study. In step 4 you choose a level: named with numbers, named without numbers, or anonymized. Your choice doesn't affect judging. The agreed level is written into the winner's SOW.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law rules.

Changes

We may update these terms, for example to move the close date. Changes are posted on this page.
