# AI Cost Calculator

> Describe an AI workflow in plain words and see what it would cost to run each month with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Chinese open models (DeepSeek and Qwen). Free, with Google sign-in to save estimates.

## How it works

1. **Describe the job.** Say what comes in and what should happen to it, for example "about 115 invoices a day by email, entered into our accounts".
2. **Answer a few questions.** The calculator asks only what changes the price: document length, whether pages are scans, how fast each item needs doing.
3. **Compare the monthly bill.** Pick the AI companies to compare. Each gets a monthly figure and a range, and every slider updates them straight away.

The chat only works out which workflow you have and which sliders matter. Every figure comes from a fixed calculation, so the same inputs always give the same price.

## Example: 115 invoices a day

Two-page PDF invoices arriving by email, 22 working days a month, three AI steps each (classify, extract, validate), same-day turnaround so batch pricing applies. At list prices on 2026-09-25, balanced tier:

| Provider | Expected per month |
|---|---|
| OpenAI | $19.63 |
| Anthropic | $25.52 |
| Google | $7.36 |
| Chinese open models | $10.68 |

Each figure has a range 25% either side, because real documents vary.

## What the estimate includes

Only what the AI provider charges for reading and writing text and images. It does not include building the workflow, hosting it, or SimplaDocs fees.

## Who it is for

- **Teams pricing a project** before they commit to building it.
- **SimplaDocs on sales calls**, quoting what a workflow we build will cost to run.

## Tools for AI assistants in the browser

In a browser with WebMCP, this page offers these tools to an assistant working in the visitor's tab:

- `calculator_list_templates`: the workflows the calculator prices, with their controls and ranges.
- `calculator_list_prices`: list prices per provider and tier, in US dollars per million tokens.
- `calculator_estimate`: the monthly cost of one workflow per provider, without signing in.
- `calculator_start`: opens the interactive calculator; a visitor who is not signed in lands on the Google sign-in step first.

## Questions

**Why companies and not model names?** Model names change every few months. Each company has a fast, a balanced and a premium tier, and the calculator prices the model that currently fills each one. Every estimate records the date of the prices it used.

**Why sign in?** So estimates are saved and only you can see them. Google is the only sign-in. SimplaDocs does not contact you unless you tick the box when you save.
